A hereiditary condition that inhibits the normal clotting of blood and occurs almost exclusively in males.  A blood product made of the pooled blood of many individuals called factor VIII is taken by hemophiliacs to assist in clotting.  Factor VIII in the past occaisionally contained the AIDS virus, but now in the U.S. both factors VIII and IX (A few cases of AIDS have been diagnosed in patients lacking factor IX) are heat treated to kill the virus and decrease the possibility of contracting AIDS.  Due to the high rate of previous infections, hemophiliacs still remain a high-risk group for AIDS.
